Boost Your Job Application Success: Essential Steps to Improve Your CV

For many people, it can be frustrating to send their curriculum vitae (CV) for a position and be immediately discarded. Try following the steps in this article to avoid that!

Let's start by understanding why your resume gets discarded without even receiving a first contact, even when you believe you meet all the requirements for the job position.

For that, I want to ask you:

  • When was the last time you updated your curriculum vitae?
  • Are you sure you have written all your skills in your curriculum vitae?
  • Did you update your CV for the position you are applying for?
  • Are you certain that your curriculum vitae includes all the skills they are requesting for the job position?

The curriculum vitae is not a static document but a fluid one, meaning that it should be modified as necessary. Resumes should always be up to date with all the technical knowledge acquired through professional and academic experience.

It's important to ensure that all the technologies or skills mentioned in the job offer are detailed in your CV. This will allow the IT recruiter to accurately observe the required skills in the job offer.

Updating your resume for each job position is crucial as it allows you to tailor your profile to specific requirements. This will increase your chances of being selected.

Important details to consider for constructing your CV:

Desired position: Below your name, indicate to the IT recruiter your specialization, for example: Senior QA Automation, Senior Backend in Python, Senior Frontend React, Senior Web Developer, Senior DevOps Engineer.

Profile description: Start by giving the recruiter a detailed description of your professional profile and your technology skills.

Skills: After the profile description, inform the recruiter about your skills, indicating your level of experience. This helps to clarify your strong technical knowledge.

Professional experience: Provide details for each of your professional experiences, including the company name, dates of employment, assigned position, specific tasks performed, and technologies used in each experience. This allows the recruiter to know the exact amount of professional experience you have with key technologies and functions related to the advertised position.

Note: Organize your experiences starting from the current company or position and work backwards.

Education: List your education in the following order: Doctorate, postgraduate, undergraduate, certifications, diplomas, boot camps.

Language proficiency: Indicate to the recruiter your proficiency level in handling a second or third language.

In conclusion, by following these essential steps, you can greatly enhance your job application success and stand out among other candidates. Remember to keep your CV updated, emphasizing relevant skills and tailoring it to each specific position. Organize your professional experience and highlight the technologies you've worked with to grab the attention of IT recruiters.

By implementing these strategies, you'll maximize your chances of being selected for interviews and propel your career forward. So, take the time to optimize your CV and confidently pursue your professional goals.
